I am a former lawyer, legally qualified in both Malaysia and England & Wales. I completed my Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) with The Honourable Society of the Middle Temple and was called to the Malaysian Bar as an Advocate & Solicitor.
I have been a reader, writer and a student of English and English Literature since I was a young child and enjoy the beauty of language. I studied Shakespearean text at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London as I was passionate and curious. I aim to spread the joy of learning languages, understanding the culture, and context behind the language and of course eventually mastering the language. I have previously taught A-Level law and my student responded well to my teaching methods.
I am also a member of the Malaysian Writers Society and frequently participate in the literary events in Penang as a writer.
Teaching Method(s)
My teaching methods is to ensure my pupil is honest with their level in the language and to eventually expose them to unorthodox ways of learning, such as through analysing scenes from tv shows, films and books to understand both the language and the cultural context they are used in.
I will also utilise grammar exercises that are more traditional so that they may receive and understand the knowledge in more than one way. Vocabulary exercises will be done through text analysis and them expanding on the new words they have seen.
This will not only serve them well in examinations but also widen their knowledge on how words can be used in different contexts. My exercises include helping them understand the nature of exam questions and how to look beyond what is asked and why it is asked. I am fluent in Bahasa Malaysia and English and am able to teach in both languages.
