About Me
My preferred nickname is Dayana. I have approximately four years of tutoring experience, having started shortly after completing my SPM in 2021. While I haven’t taught continuously, I’ve consistently taken on tutoring roles primarily with lower and upper secondary school students, with a strong focus on Mathematics and occasional support in Additional Mathematics and English. I first discovered my passion for teaching while studying at MRSM, a rigorous boarding school that implemented a mentor-mentee system. I was frequently appointed as the lead mentor for various subjects, particularly Mathematics and Additional Mathematics, and was regularly trusted by teachers to guide peers during intensive sessions. Over time, I realised that I wasn’t just good at the subject, I had a genuine talent for helping others understand it too. This motivated me to pursue tutoring more seriously after SPM, both as a way to use my strengths and to support myself financially while continuing my studies.

One of my proudest moments as a tutor was helping a student who had long struggled with Mathematics finally pass their SPM with a C grade, a result that opened doors for further education opportunities. Watching students overcome their fear of Math and achieve success, no matter how small, reminds me why I love teaching.

Ultimately, my goal as a tutor is to make Math and Add Math feel less intimidating and more meaningful. I want students to not only understand what they’re learning, but to remember it and see how it applies beyond the classroom, whether in further studies or in real-life scenarios as working adults. I aim to nurture confidence, curiosity, and long-term understanding in every student I teach.
Teaching Method(s)
When working with students, I start by reviewing the syllabus with them to identify their gaps in understanding, since many don’t even realise what they’re struggling with. Once I identify those areas, I walk them through the content step by step, and then ask them to teach it back to me to reinforce their grasp. I also rely heavily on visual analogies to make abstract concepts more relatable and easier to recall during exams. I believe repetition is key, so I incorporate quizzes and frequent exercises, especially past-year questions, to build confidence and fluency.
