About Me
I am Wong Chock Yin, a 21-year-old who has recently completed my diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) and am currently pursuing a degree in TESL at Management and Science University (MSU). My passion for education, particularly in teaching English, drives my goals and aspirations. Throughout my diploma studies, I gained valuable knowledge and practical skills in language teaching, classroom management, and lesson planning, which helped me understand the importance of creating engaging learning environments. I appreciate the role of a teacher as an educator, motivator, and guide who influences students' confidence and interest in learning. As a degree student, I aim to enhance my teaching abilities and expand my understanding of effective teaching methodologies, believing that continuous learning is essential for becoming a competent educator. I am interested in using creative approaches like storytelling and interactive activities to make English learning enjoyable and effective. My ultimate goal is to become a dedicated English teacher who positively impacts students' lives and helps them achieve their full potential.
Teaching Method(s)
One teaching method I can use is a combination of the Grammar Translation Method and Communicative Language Teaching, where I translate words and sentences while making learning fun through games. Translation helps students, especially beginners, understand new vocabulary quickly, but learning should not be boring or focused on memorization. Incorporating fun and interactive games can make a big difference in students' learning experience. For example, I can create a simple vocabulary game where students find the correct meaning in their first language, turning it into a group competition to earn points. Another activity is a 'guessing game' where one student describes a word in English, and others try to guess it, encouraging students to use the language actively while understanding the meaning through translation when needed. This method helps students understand the language better, keeps them engaged and motivated, and creates a relaxed classroom environment, reducing students' fear of making mistakes. Combining translation with fun games balances understanding and enjoyment, making it an effective teaching method for developing students' confidence and interest in using English in real-life situations.
