My name is Alia, and I am just finished up my 6th year teaching Mathematics. For the past 3 years, I have specifically focused on teaching the renowned Singapore Maths syllabus, which has given me a unique perspective on fostering a deep understanding of mathematical concepts and problem-solving skills in students.Throughout my teaching career, I have continuously pursued professional development opportunities to stay updated with the latest educational methodologies and best practices in Mathematics instruction. My commitment to excellence has allowed me to create dynamic and engaging lesson plans that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring that every student can thrive in the classroom.
Teaching Method(s)
In my role at SAM Singapore Maths, I had the privilege of implementing the principles of the Singapore Math approach to help students develop a deep understanding of mathematics. Through the Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract (CPA) progression, I ensured that my students had a tangible and visual grasp of mathematical concepts. This approach not only improved their problem-solving skills but also instilled in them the belief that math is both important and approachable.Number bonds and bar modeling, integral components of the Singapore Math method, became valuable tools in my teaching arsenal. They allowed students to break down complex problems into manageable parts, promoting a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Witnessing my students' growth in confidence and resourcefulness through these methods has been truly rewarding.
I firmly believe in the importance of connected learning, just as Singapore Math promotes the continuity of knowledge. My teaching style encourages students to recognize the interconnectedness of mathematical concepts, reinforcing their foundation and preparing them for more advanced math challenges.
