My Name is Iylia Natasya. I’m from TESL twinning programme which I had spent 3 years studying in IPG GAYA, and another 3 years at University College, St. Mark & ST.John, United Kingdom. The University is known as the best university that provide high quality and excellent teachers especially in teaching English as Second Language. I have learnt a lot and had observed the teaching teachniques from schools in Uk as well, which helped tremendously to enhance my teaching skills.
Until now, I’ve been a teacher for more than 10 years in secondary schools. I have taught in 4 different schools which helped me learn how to approach different kind of students with different levels. I learnt various kind of techniques and approaches to adapt and deliver the best lessons for the students.
I’m a passionate teacher and teaching has been part of my life since I have finished my school. I dedicated a lot of time planning interactive lessons and engaging materials to maximise my students’ learning. I have taught SPM students for more than 8 years, and have started marking SPM papers since 2 years ago. I also become the assessor for SPM Paper 3 (speaking) for more than 4 years. Teaching SPM has become my cup of tea and it is my goal to make sure my students score their very best in SPM.
Teaching Method(s)
My teaching techniques are different based on the questions requirement. For example,
a) for writing- I will drill and train the students on how they can generate ideas and elaborate the ideas. I will introduce some technique using mind maps and tables to plan their essay.
b) for speaking- I will use the 'familiarization' technique. they will have frequent speaking practices and familiarize themselves with useful words/phrases/sentences provided along the class.
c) for reading- I use finding key words technique to identify the answers. students will also learn how to guess the words based on context in order to improve their comprehension of the reading text.
d) for grammar- I usually use lots of interesting quizzes and activities so the students can apply and practice the targeted grammatical form learnt.
overall, at the end of each class, I will make sure to maximise the students understanding, achieve the learning and teaching objectives and most importantly the students will have a lot of fun.
